Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection
Thousands of maps online from the University of Texas. Try browsing maps by location or historical maps generally. Historical world maps that include drawings in the sea may be especially fruitful.
Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library
Thousands of digitized maps. Try an advanced search, choosing only one "genre" (eg maps) at a time with a keyword.
British Library Online Gallery
30,000 online maps. Try a regional or a world map.
Library of Congress
35,000 maps available online. Some pictorial.
Leventhal Map Center, Boston Public Library
Tip: try searching "Nova Totius Terrarum" for some very early Western maps that include creatures of the deep!
