SuperSearch

SuperSearch is a great place to start for journal articles, books and almost everything else the library has, in one easy to use interface.

For searching with more focus and precision, try one of the databases recommended on this guide.

Key Databases

Databases contain a combination of full text articles (ready to read online) and citation information about articles, book chapters, or books.

Search Tips

  • use synonyms and truncation to find all the ways your topic is expressed--databases are very literal
  • combine multiple concepts using AND / OR for best results

sample topic:   Dante's portrayal of figures of classical mythology

(Dante OR "Divine Comedy" OR "Divina Commedia") - synonymous concepts

AND (myth* OR classic* OR Achilles OR Midas) - truncation *

Catalog Search Tips

Try a keyword search. Once you find a book that is relevant to your topic, click on the title of that book, then look for Subjects in the full record of that book to help you find "more like this."

Sample keyword search:

  • apocalyp* imag*

leads to linked subject terms and more books on this topic:

  • Apocalyptic literature -- History and criticism
  • End of the world in literature
  • End of the world -- Biblical teaching
