Try these resources for article-length biographies of your author. The reference works on the Context & Overviews page also contain some biographical information. For longer biographies of your author, do a keyword search in the catalog for [author name] biography.

American National Biography
Lengthy biographical articles on many American authors, like Faulkner, Updike, etc. Living authors not included.
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
Biographical articles on deceased British (or Britain-related) authors, such as James Joyce. (Only one person at a time can access this database. If you can't get in, try again in a few minutes.)
