How to find items by call number

Try a keyword search. Once you find a book that is relevant to your topic, use the subject headings of that book to help you find "more like this."

Example: search arab traders africa

Find a good book from the list of results, click on the title to see the full record, and look for subject terms that describe the book's contents. Follow these links to find all the books on your topic.

Subject headings for travellers' accounts include:

• [place name] -- Description and travel
• Voyages and travels
• Travelers' writings

Tip:  augment one of these subject terms with keywords such as a place name, historic period, or the name of a particular person.  Example:  Travelers' writings AND india AND medieval

Tip:  mine your secondary sources for references to particular explorers or travelers, then search for them in WorldCat -- some have been translated into English.
